American Premiere of I fatti di Mosè nel deserto
Music by Bernardo Pasquini (1637—1710)
Libretto by Giovanni Battista Giardini (b.1650)
In this oratorio based on Exodus 18, Moses, his brother Aaron, and a narrator vividly recall the challenges and successes of the Hebrews in the wilderness.
Seventeenth-century oratorio combined the tremendously popular music of the opera with stories chosen for the intellectual and spiritual enrichment of its listeners. The Academy of Sacred Drama continues this mission by uniting emotion, intellect, and community in presentations that incorporate great oratorios, contextual lectures, and community receptions.
